Despite the massive publicity for the second part of “Wonder Woman” (1984 Wonder Woman) and its broadcast at peak viewing times on Christmas holidays in the United States, the film – which cost $ 200 million to produce – has faced widespread criticism, due to its double The artistic quality and boredom that prolonged the sequence of events, in addition to presenting an ugly stereotype about the Arabs.
The film “Wonder and From 1984” has a duration of two and a half hours, and began broadcasting on Christmas Eve on the digital live broadcasting platform “HBO MAX” owned by “Warner Bros. Entertainment”, and in some American theaters. .
The movie stars Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot, 35 years old, who won the title of Miss Israel in 2004, and served for two years in the Israeli occupation forces.
And participate in the film actress Kristen Wiig in the role of the villain “Chitia”, and actor Chris Pine in the role of Gadot’s friend, directed by American Patty Jenkins.
Gadot presented the role of “Diana Prince”, Princess of the Amazon, who is a beautiful and strong woman at the same time, and one of the superheroes adapted from the DC Comics comics of the same name, and appears in the film with firm gazes, a short skirt and a shirt carrying The colors of the American flag.
The Egyptian actor Amr Waked also participates in the film. While Gadot appears in the charismatic style, Waked appears in his secondary role with a fully stereotyped performance with a double “Arab Pharaonic”, “Prince Sayed bin Abydos”, who owns vast lands with oil near Cairo.
And he is called in the film a typical traditional name promoted in America by Gulf Arabs, and he is the “king of raw materials”, and he runs a country called “Bialia”. It will take only a few minutes for his personality to emerge as a greedy and deceitful man – as Arabs are usually portrayed in Hollywood movies – who not only owns a lot of oil, but seeks to acquire more land.
The “King of Raw” wears an Arab robe, wraps his head with a white turban, and overlooks from his great, soaring palace, the dilapidated buildings of Cairo and the Egyptian pyramids.
Waked appears in his role saying, “I hope things will never happen, which is the return of the lands of my fathers, then the infidels will never enter it again, so that we can regain our glories.” Then he laughs hysterically and says, “I sold all my oil to the Saudis.”
Actors and artists have a very important role, as many people are affected by them .. With this work, you are devoting the idea of normalization to become normal in our societies under the pretext of humanity and no hatred or racism !!! Indeed, this is a very bad and flawed example of young Egyptians who sacrificed their honorable lives against the enemy

In one of the controversial shots, the heroine of the film – who is trying to stop war and violence in the world – rescues 4 Arab children playing soccer on a road in the desert, before they die with a missile.
The footage continues, of Gadot embracing a veiled Egyptian girl while she was rescued against the backdrop of desert and camel footage, amidst astonishment by women wearing the veil, which raised the ire of the observers. The irony here is that the Israeli occupation forces killed 4 Palestinian children while playing on the beach during its attack on Gaza in 2014, the same year in which the actress used her fans and social platforms to defend the Israeli attack on Gaza, and she said in her writings at the time that the Palestinian resistance movement. Hamas “is really the one hiding behind women and children.
Gadot is known to be a militant Israeli nationalist, having openly supported the 2014 bombing of Gaza, which resulted in the killing of two thousand Palestinians, 3-quarters of them civilians, and the wounding of more than 10,000 people. And it is the bombing that left great damage on the service, health and educational sectors in Gaza so far.
In another scene, one of the heroes tries several pieces of clothes until he reaches a neck tie similar to the black and white “Palestinian keffiyeh”, and puts it on his shoulders, then says with clear dissatisfaction, “I will never wear this, it makes me look like a pirate.”
The film also shows that Arabs live among camels, and one of them wishes he had nuclear bombs.
Social media criticism
The film faces widespread criticism on social media platforms, ranging from describing it as containing “dust” of racism, to clear accusations of stereotyping.
The Arab American Committee to Combat Discrimination – an organization for Americans of Arab descent – tweeted, “Does he promote the tag” #Wondorumen “because of the traditional anti-Arab images contained in the film?
Technically, Gadgets360 described the film as a “big step backward,” and critic Kate Airland of IndieWire chose to classify the film as “B”, meaning average.
As for the ratings of American critics, the cinematic tricks were weak, and this is evident in some of the shots that included dolls, not real people. The film was also rated only 63% out of 327 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film was also not promoted on communication platforms and among those who love the cinema, so that the first shots of it were described in some writings as naive and childish. Some wrote that, as a result, they thought it was a satirical comic that mocked superhero films.
Followers also criticized the film for its focus on the eighties in a striking way, which caused the scenes to distract from the events of the story.
Even in Israel, Jeff Hoffman – a Times of Israel reporter from New York – wrote that “Wonder of 84, was the most awaited movie in the history of cinema, starring an Israeli actress, but it came as a fake bang,” continuing, “I am very, very sorry. I wish I had different news for you. “
The film has also been subjected to other technical criticisms, such as the weakness of the characters and the lack of dazzling in the action shots, and the story itself is confusing, multi-axis and many meanings, so that the climax of events begins 70 minutes after the beginning of the film.
On the bright side, some critics welcomed it because it included a massive dose of imagination and an escape from reality for an audience suffering from the effects of the Corona pandemic, which forced many to stay in their homes for a long time and at great distances from their relatives and friends.
This is while some pro-Israel accounts celebrated the movie, and the organization Stand With Us, which is concerned with supporting Israel internationally through education, published several pictures of Gadot on her social accounts, saying that she is one of the “extraordinary women of Israel.”
She was followed by a picture on Twitter of female soldiers of the Israeli occupation army, describing them as “truly extraordinary women in Israel? Did you know that 57% of women serve there in the army?”
The organization also published other photos of Gadot with a number of “extraordinary” Israeli women, according to the tweet.

Block the show
It is noteworthy that the first part of the series of films has been banned from showing in some Arab countries, and some Arab critics considered – in 2017 – the presentation of the first part as a kind of cultural normalization with Israel, which has occupied Arab lands since 1948.
At the time, Lebanon approached the main office for the boycott of Israel in Damascus to include the name of the Israeli actress and all her works on the list of actions that must be banned.
And recently, social media users also criticized the actor Amr Waked, and accused him of being lenient in normalizing relations with Israel when he previously announced his participation in the Israeli actress in her recent artistic work.
