  1. I think the problem here is, whether he is Australian or not, the bullshit thug-life fuckery he pulled for the majority of his life pretty much makes him UNaustralian. Let him stay for all I care, he’s still a prick.

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.smh.com.au/national/aboriginal-corporation-confirms-shane-martin-is-indigenous-as-he-attempts-again-to-re-enter-australia-20200218-p541xz.html) reduced by 68%. (I’m a bot)

    > Shane Martin, the ex-bikie boss and father of AFL star Dustin Martin, was issued a certificate confirming his Aboriginality by the Aboriginal Corporation of Tasmania in December 2016, putting further pressure on the federal government to allow him to return to Australia in the wake of the High Court's decision that Aboriginal people cannot be deported.

    > The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age can reveal that Mr Martin, his three sons including Dustin and his brother were all issued with certificates confirming their Aboriginal genealogy in December 2016.

    > The corporation looks at a combination of documentary evidence and oral history, Mr Le Sage said, then decides whether to confirm Aboriginality based on the person identifying as Aboriginal, ancestry research and whether they are accepted by an Aboriginal community.

  3. If the indigenous community vouches for the authenticity of someone claiming aboriginality. What right, therefore, do we have to deny citizenship to a person who never thought they needed to prove it. The attacks upon this High Court judgement reek of discrimination – racism despite what the right wing commentators will whinnge about.

I am born in Australia. Mum was 4th generation and dad a pommie immigrant. I know how I would feel if mlm my citizenship was challenged. How much worse to be indigenous, linked to the land by culture and heritage, and be told that you weren’t Australian.
