Al-Ahly of Egypt returned from Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca with a precious 2-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-finals.
Al-Ahly scored an early goal in the fourth minute, when Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” made a fatal mistake in Wydad’s defense, and stole the ball, scoring the first goal after he was alone in the goal.
Wydad missed the equalizer when Rabi` Awok missed a penalty that the referee had awarded to the Moroccan team in the 43rd minute.
Wydad’s waste of the penalty kick doubled the confidence of Al-Ahly players, to reinforce Ali Maaloul, the Egyptian champion, by scoring his second goal in the 62nd minute of a penalty kick.
It is noteworthy that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to hold the semi-final second leg of the tournament on October 23, at the Cairo International Stadium.
