The president of the Brazilian soccer club Palmas Football Club and 4 of the team’s players died in a small plane crash that was carrying them to a match in a local championship on Sunday
The fourth-division club said that the club’s president, Lucas Mira, and the players: Lucas Brachides, Gilherme Noi, Ranoli, Marcus Molinari and the captain of the plane, died in the accident.
Palmas added in a statement that “the plane took off and crashed at the end of the runway at Tocantinni Aviation Association (a small airport near the city of Palmas).”
The plane was heading to Goiania, about 800 km away, where he would play with diamonds against Vila Nova on Monday in the final eighth round of the Verde Cup, a tournament between the underground teams in southern and northern Brazil.
This accident is not strange to Brazilian football in recent years, in 2016 several Chapecoense players died in a plane crash while traveling to Colombia for a match in the Copa del Rey final.
Two years earlier, Fernandao, the former Internacional captain, died when a helicopter crashed in the state of Goias.
