Brazilian activists participated in the campaign “A Live Broadcast to Impeach the President” within the framework of several popular events organized by the opposition forces calling for the removal of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Other opponents organized car demonstrations in a number of states as part of the same events.
The opposition accuses Bolsonaro of responsibility for the deaths of more than 200,000 people due to his failure to take adequate measures to combat the Corona virus.
The total of 61 parliamentarians’ requests to remove the president reached 61, the highest of its kind in a single presidential term, and the decision to accept the start of procedures and vote on them remains in the hands of the Speaker of Parliament.
Bolsonaro’s popularity decreased by 11 percentage points in about a week, in the midst of a difficult start to the vaccination campaign against Corona and the collapse of the health system in the city of Manaus, according to an opinion poll conducted by the Exam-Idea polling institute.
The vaccination campaign so far includes 6 million doses of the CoronaVac vaccine made by the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, and two million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine arrived late Friday from India, where it is manufactured.
The Botantan Institute in Sao Paulo (Sinovac partner) has licensed 4.8 million additional doses of the Coronavac vaccine.
Bloomberg News reported, based on the poll, that the popularity of Bolsonaro’s government fell to 26% from 37%, while the popularity of those opposed to his administration jumped to 45%.
