  1. Look on the bright side, at least right wingers got to trigger the libs.

  2. Currently reading a great book regarding forest, and seems we have a huge misconception about old forest, what we are loosing isn’t just trees but an ecosystem and no, 300 years isn’t enough. In Europe we lost all of our ancient forest yet have loads of woodland, those are not the same.

  3. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-49646409) reduced by 73%. (I’m a bot)

    > "We put out the fires and there are people behind us that are starting them again We cannot control wildfires like this," he said.

    > María José Veramendi Villa, South America researcher for Amnesty International, said: "Brazil is not the only country suffering from the terrible forest fires in the Amazon … Instead of making contradictory and baseless public declarations, Bolivian authorities must scientifically and independently investigate the origin of this serious crisis.”

    > The president initially dismissed international help in fighting the fires, but as domestic pressure and international attention grew, he later backtracked, unlike his Brazilian counterpart who linked the offer to colonialism.

  4. Haha regeneration… not if people have a say in it… soy beans and cattle welcome to r/collapse

  5. My country’s funded media did an opinion piece of a Brazilian farmer burning forest a while ago, to give the other side of the coin, as it were.

I was reading it for a bit, and then it came to a point of: “I have to work as a teenager for 16 hours a day, or I wouldn’t have anything to eat.”

    Ok, that’s some harsh conditions.

“I have 10 children of my own now, that all need to eat”

    Wait.. what?

“I need to cut down and burn the forest, or I won’t be able to survive.”

No no no no nooo, go back one step. In what universe did you think it was a good idea to have bloody 10 kids in a place where you yourself have trouble feeding a few?

  6. Evo Morales is clearly anti-climate and a right wing loon….. right?

  7. “look on the bright side: at least *we’ll* all be dead by then.”

  8. We can call this the Bolsonaro Effect.

  9. Bolivia is the butcher of the world.

  10. But since Bolivia is ruled by a leftist this has been absolutely swept under the rug.
