  1. Title is *Fake News*.

    * The RCMP aren’t there to “help build a pipeline”, they are there to enforce the law.
    * They are not “raiding”; they are within their jurisdiction.
    * The majority of Indigenous communities voted to support the pipeline; this is a splinter group who opposes it in defiance of their own chiefs and communities.

  2. Lots of misinformation going on in here. Not surprising considering the emotion stirring title.

First Nation communities all along this pipelines route have already signed off on this project since it’s bringing jobs and much needed prosperity to their communities. Including the Wetsuweten. The elected chiefs have negotiated on behalf of their people and have agreed to this project. The hereditary chiefs in this area are a very small vocal minority who disagree with the elected chiefs decision in this case.

  3. The oil needs to stay underground

  4. So Bolsonaro in Brasil plans to put forward new laws that would ignore Indigenous land rights and allow oil and mining. The US government is ignoring indigenous land rights and plans to forge ahead with an oil pipeline and Canadian is ignoring indigenous land rights to build a new tar sands pipeline across their land. Seems to be a pattern here. Rich greed hungry corporations pressure the governments to ignore legal land rights of native peoples all for private profit. First they came and stole the land, then made a deal for the natives to keep some of it. Then when they discover there’s resources or a use for it, the governments want it back. Fuck our promises and treaties. Like the old saying goes, “If you want to know if you can trust the government, just ask an Indian. “

  5. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qjdjaq/police-raid-indigenous-land-to-help-build-a-pipeline) reduced by 77%. (I’m a bot)

    > With no warning, a dozen RCMP vehicles, including prisoner vans and RCMP-branded Suburbans, roared out of the pre-dawn darkness and stopped just short of the watch camp where Wet'suwet'en land defenders have been resisting a court-ordered evacuation of their lands to make way for the controversial $6 billion Coastal GasLink pipeline.

    > The raid, which took place on unceded Indigenous land in northern British Colombia, took place after weeks of increasing tension over construction of the 400-mile-long natural gas pipeline.

    > On social media, land defenders have tracked police movements as they advance down the logging road. "Now hearing 36 vehicles including and heavy machinery heavy machinery went up the road, including multiple bulldozers," Unist'ot'en Camp tweeted.

  6. Water is life. Fight for your lives

  7. Canada fucking over first nations? How novel.

As a Canadian, this is our greatest national shame. It’s seemingly never ending.

  8. I’m ashamed to be a Canadian today.
