  1. That’s not a good sign. A city’s Mayor should not have to personally appeal the President in what *should* be a localized problem.

    Now obviously Hong Kong is not a normal Chinese city, but even in that case either Lam should have just dropped the bill entirely on her own thus demonstrating her own personal authority and HK’s separation from China, or Xi should have stepped in and said that where HK police won’t extradite criminals his national police will which is what Trump does with his CBP and ATF in regards to immigrants and guns. The latter option probably could have worked had Lam also resigned, people would have still been mad but it’d have split everyone into different factions. Not so now.
