  1. All I’m hearing from this is that 1 in 3 people don’t get symptoms

  2. The next question is, how many deaths were incorrectly reported?

  3. Aren’t most countries vastly underreporting asymptomatic cases?

  4. why not read the original news:

    https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3076323/third-coronavirus-cases-may-be-silent-carriers-classified

“The World Health Organisation classifies all people who test positive as confirmed cases regardless of whether they experience any symptoms. South Korea also does this. But the Chinese government changed its classification guidelines on February 7, counting only those patients with symptoms as confirmed cases. The United States, Britain and Italy simply do not test people without symptoms, apart from medical workers who have prolonged exposure to the virus.”

“The approach taken by China and South Korea of testing anyone who has had close contact with a patient – regardless of whether the person has symptoms – may explain why the two Asian countries seem to have checked the spread of the virus. Hong Kong is extending testing to airport arrivals in the city, even if travellers have no symptoms. Meanwhile in most European countries and the US, where only those with symptoms are tested, the number of infections continues to rapidly rise.”

  5. This is kinda old news. I think we heard about this mid-late February and I remembered people were having an uproar on Twitter announced that they won’t be counting asymptomatic carriers.

  6. The title is not wrong, technically. But it might make you feel that they just irresponsibly let those roam free, which is not the case. From the original source [South China Morning Post](https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3076323/third-coronavirus-cases-may-be-silent-carriers-classified):

    >More than 43,000 people in China had tested positive for Covid-19 by the end of February but had no immediate symptoms, a condition typically known as asymptomatic, according to the data. They were placed in quarantine and monitored but were not included in the official tally of confirmed cases, which stood at about 80,000 at the time.

If this is true, it would only make the actual fatality rate even ***lower***, not higher. So you can view this in different ways: 1) it’s even more contagious than we thought. 2) it’s less deadly than we thought.

    Some opinions for the OP.

    1) Try to avoid misleading titles.

    2) Post original sources, not secondary.

  7. Nobody should trust their numbers, just like Russia’s and I’m assuming North Korea’s

  8. When you compare Italys infected to death ratio to Chinas, there is no doubt the books were crooked

  9. Not reported. Not tested. China. America. Not important.

    Stay home

  10. And Russia reports a huge spike in pneumonia cases but not very many coronavirus cases.

    Whatcha gonna do?

  11. can we just have an auto-reply of “read the fucking article” to EVERY SINGLE COMMENT?

  12. Someone here in the comment section have likely the virus without even knowing it, yes i think that’s you

  13. And US still refuse to test anyone asymptomatic

  14. Could be more, statistics only gives an estimate not the accurate number

  15. Japan has the largest number of undiagnosed Covid-19 in Asia

It has no room to speak, they are hardly testing in Japan so they would also have thousands of undiagnosed cases who are likely asymptomatic

  16. The South China Morning Post reported on Monday that classified government data it obtained show that more than 43,000 so-called silent carriers were not counted in the number of confirmed cases by the end of February.

China reported around 79,000 confirmed cases as of the end of last month.

The paper said that when silent carriers are taken into account, the number of infected people on the mainland exceeds 120,000.

Chinese health authorities said on February 14 that people who were infected but showed no symptoms would be quarantined and monitored for two weeks, but not counted as coronavirus patients.

The authorities also said they would not disclose the number of silent carriers in the country.

  17. >The South China Morning Post reported on Monday that classified government data it obtained show that more than 43,000 so-called silent carriers were not counted in the number of confirmed cases by the end of February.

    Here’s the cited SCMP article’s link: https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3076323/third-coronavirus-cases-may-be-silent-carriers-classified

  18. that’s good news because it means the real mortality rate is lower than the one assumed/published today

  19. Those numbers are not accurate at all, Italy seems to be the country with the most cases but its also one of those doing the most tests, (they recently sent 500k tests to the USA). But in reality the UK, China, or USA are probably having way more infected people than the official numbers.
