  1. When you run a virus research lab right next to an outbreak site, in a nation where the government strongly prefers cover ups (to the point of jailing people) over dealing with the problem as effectively as possible… these rumors are going to happen and they’re going to be considered at least somewhat credible.

  2. China did have an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, or Sars, due to a leak from a laboratory in 2004, killing one person and infecting nine others, according to state media.

Chinese authorities said that the leak was a result of negligence and five senior officials at the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention were punished.

  3. Who runs SCMP? Is it a state mouth peice? Genuinely curious is all

Edit: owned by alibaba group, based from hong kong. Several articles about SCMP promoting chinas soft power.

So yes state mouth peice. You know how chinese Gov forces companies to tow the line.

I’ll remember that anytime I see SCMP.
