Fiery clashes at Chinese University of Hong Kong as police storm into campus

  1. CUHK was a literal warzone today. The smoke from various was visible from quite a distance. It’s too far from where I live to justify joining that particular fight, but my feeds were full of requests for supplies/etc to support our frontliners.

  2. Assaulting university, history will remember all the shit they have done.

  3. There’s been multiple clashes since police began their siege of the university early in the morning on Nov 11. Here’s a live stream from today: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRLliTfACh4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRLliTfACh4)

The clash starts closer to 3:12 PM (look at the clock on the upper right). If you want to watch the hours of negotiation in Cantonese before that, the agreement was that police would leave campus and not fire any more weapons near the university. Protesters would be allowed to set up a road block at the end of the bridge/intersection that the riot police were occupying. Then, protesters would clear off all the other road blocks they had set up on campus. Police started to back off but when protesters moved their roadblock forward, police started to get agitated and began firing tear gas.

  4. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1491604-20191112.htm) reduced by 52%. (I’m a bot)
    > Hundreds of riot police officers stormed into the Chinese University on Tuesday afternoon and arrested a number of student protesters after hours of standoff and an intense fight at an entrance of the Sha Tin campus.

    > A fight broke out as protesters, using huge rubbish bins as shields, moved towards the police cordon line, while police fired numerous rounds of tear gas, filling the site with thick white smoke before storming in.

    > Riot police continued to charge into the campus while students set fire to various objects, including a car, in an attempt to block the officers' way.

  5. University campus should be a private place, where police needs permits to get in. And today, the police tries to get inside the campus. Shooting Chinese-made tear gas, which contains cyanide, everywhere. Calling the students in the campus illegal assembly. The headmaster of CUHK goes to deal with the police and try to convince them to leave. But the police keeps trying to get through by shooting rubber bullet and tear gas.

  6. Over 1000 canisters of tear gas has been shot into CUHK, and the numbers would not stop tonight.

(Caption: Only part of the canisters in the “war zone”.)

  7. Remember, they are not protesters.

They are innocent students trying to safeguard their home under the slaughtering by the police force, with no one coming to help them escape.

  8. The CCP has a long history of wiping out academic institutions. They did that during the chinese civil war, put all professors complaining about the party into labour camps, and literally closed down all education for 10 years during the cultural revolution. Also let’s not forget the Tiananmen massacre in 1989 where they ‘did not roll over protesting students with tanks’.

  9. The HK police and Military are referring to the HK people as cockroaches, which is the first step in committing genocide. Get the people of China to think of them as non-human.

  10. Fuck u China Let em b free

  11. I remember lightly reading about a similar thing of my country’s history (Philippines) where the police and military arrested student leaders and ‘red-tagged’ ‘communists’ in the University of the Philippines back then during the Marcos Regime. So many bright young people tortured and killed. I don’t know what else to say except express support, my own gvot is mum on the HK protests given how China has them at its thumb as well..

  12. This is what it looks like

  13. Rip scholastic sanctuary

  14. Absolutely outrageous.
The HKPF really thinks they can do anything without consequences. God is watching and they will pay for their sins.

  15. Many details were left out. For example, the police had agreed to withdraw back to behind the bridge if the protesters also withdrew backwards, and the police did withdraw, but instead protesters used the chance to advance their position, thus prompting the confrontation to occur. I don’t know if the police originally intended to “storm” the university, but before the protesters broke their word and advance towards them with barricades, they weren’t even on university grounds (I’m not sure about this, but if you watch the stream the most I saw for hours was police stationed on the university-end of the entrance bridge).

    Edit: watch this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VBfjuqpHe_Q
It’s a video by epochtimes, which was founded by falungong, and even their reporter acknowledged that it was first the protesters who had moved forwards and escalated things (around 10m mark).

Further edit: it’s really sad when I’m getting downvoted simply for describing what happened, and I’ve even provided a link. Could downvoters at least try the link before downvoting?

  17. did not see any student, only saw black clad terrorists burning down a car, vandalized their own uni, pressure uni officials to negotiate their “demand” with police this afternoon. good job on police stopping young terrorists going out, the HK schools have clearly became the place to breed terrorists.
