  1. The CIA staging a coup in Latin America? Never! *heavy sarcasm *

  2. If he was trying to nationalize American business interests, yeah that’s par for the course. Besides, destabilizing socialist governments helps spread the doctrine that economies only prosper when governed by ruthless avarice.

  3. I refuse to believe Trump wouldn’t have tweeted about this if the US was behind it.

  4. CIA role? MARCO RUBIO is literally supporting this. We have audio.

  5. Wow so you mean just like all the other democratically elected governments in Latin America that the CIA has toppled since the 70’s? Whodathunkit.

  6. >A former U.S. senator has sarcastically criticized the CIA for the military coup in Bolivia, hinting U.S. involvement in the downfall of elected president Evo Morales on Sunday.

    >”Congratulations on winning power in Bolivia, @CIA!” Mike Gravel said on Twitter on Sunday, in an apparent hit at the global spy agency

It was a joke. Read the damned article before commenting.

  7. Yeah…I’m sure the 89 year old who hasn’t been in Washington in an elected capacity in almost 40 years tweeted that with authority.

    This is straight up garbage.

  8. Because a government-owned Turkish news site is an authoritative source on Latin American politics.

  9. Anyone with half a brain knows it was a CIA coup

  10. Mike Gravel’s twitter is run by some teenagers and this shouldn’t be taken as a serious statement from Gravel hisself.

  11. The CIA? Involved in a coup against a leftist government in Latin America? It goes without saying.

  12. Everyone is so eager to jump onto the anti-American imperialist train that they’re posting Turkish and Russian propaganda sites as sources regarding this Bolivian issue. And the worst part is they’re eating it up

  13. mike gravel doesn’t count.
he’s nothing but a weekend at bernies like puppet whose entire online presence is run by two chapo college students. none of “his” twitter posts actually represent him or his opinions.

  14. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/former-us-senator-hints-at-cia-role-in-bolivia/1641609) reduced by 70%. (I’m a bot)

    > ANKARA. A former U.S. senator has sarcastically criticized the CIA for the military coup in Bolivia, hinting U.S. involvement in the downfall of elected president Evo Morales on Sunday.

    > "The lie you will hear ad nauseum is that socialist states failed spontaneously – in reality it was the concerted effort of the US Imperial Machine to crush any nation that could oppose them any time it appeared," he tweeted in May. The only reaction to the political developments in Bolivia came from the Muslim congresswoman Ilhan Omar who took to Twitter to define what happened in Bolivia as a "Coup".

    > Presidential polls were held in Bolivia on Oct. 20 with Morales obtaining 47.8% of the vote, securing victory in the first round.

  15. Turkish state news agency? Sounds trustworthy to me!

  16. Mike Gravel is 89 years old and appears to be out of it. He had a couple people trying to engineer a Presidential run this year but this article is fairly meaningless.

Not saying that the CIA couldn’t have a hand it’s just that you can’t really take the source seriously.

  17. Sure lets ignore the 2016 referendum, and the people protests its all fault of the CIA

  18. Easiest coup ever.

Morales re-elected himself even if it was unconstitutional

Morales then appointed some Supreme Court justices to try and rig that

Then he made a referendum to “ask the people” if he could run again and the people told him to piss off

Then he ignored all of that and tried to rig the elections

this socialist dictator got ousted by the Bolivian people.

Oh and this guy is supported by panders and AOC. They probably like his methods to stay in power.

  19. > “The lie you will hear ad nauseum is that socialist states failed spontaneously – in reality it was the concerted effort of the US Imperial Machine to crush any nation that could oppose them any time it appeared,” he tweeted in May.

He sounds really fair and balanced…
