  1. The problem is that many doctors charge their private patients for bogus examinations to up their revenue

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.dw.com/en/german-public-health-insurance-cheaper-without-private-option-study-says/a-52403484) reduced by 70%. (I’m a bot)

    > German residents would save an average of €145 per year on health insurance costs if the privately insured paid into one statutory health insurance system, according to a study published on Monday by the IGES Institut in Berlin.

    > The study, commissioned by the German non-profit foundation Bertelsmann Stiftung, estimates that the public health insurance system would have between €8.7 billion and €10.6 billion of added revenue if the privately insured paid into it.

    > Even if the fee losses incurred by doctors as a result of the abolition of private health insurance were compensated, the study said, each insured German resident would save an average of €48 annually.

  3. yes, I really wish the system would change. right now, it’s a 2-class-system and it’s just not fair

  4. So, what you are saying is that adding a profit seeking actor in the mix makes it more expensive? How could that be, i mean, adding profit on top of mandatory costs should make things cheaper…. right?

  5. They’re talking about saving most people 48 euros a year by eliminating other choices. Interesting how well government programs work when there are no other options.

  6. Aren’t a lot of private medicare plans like that in the US?

The long gaame is to lure enough people away that when the govt-run institution is disbanded THEN they can start overcharging like crazy.

  7. I have been working in private care for a few years now and can absolutely confirm just about everything and everyone is way over charged. Most of these tests and meds are only there to make money. Don’t get me started on supplements.

  8. What is the reason people use the private option? Is it because the public option is great for regular run of the mill health issues, but if you need for an example knee surgery due to an athletic injury you could wait a year or more to see the surgeon??

  9. Your mortgage would be cheaper if your neighbor helped pay for it, study finds

  10. And amazon is cheaper than the mom and pop store, how is monopsony power news?

  11. This can only work well in germany. People follow rules , much less obese lazy fucks working for the government insurance agency.

  12. Yes, private options paying for better or earlier care. Of course there is a premium.

Study finds supply and demand. News at 11.
