  1. This is good news, and is driven by reduced emissions in the US and Europe. We need to continue to divest globally from coal. There is still much more work to do to get the worst offending countries to begin reducing their emissions too.

    > Fatih Birol saw it as “welcome news.” Global carbon dioxide emissions last year remained flat, stuck at 33 gigatons, even as the world economy grew 2.9%.

    > “Despite widespread expectations of yet another increase, our analysis shows that in fact CO2 emissions, carbon emissions last year, stopped growing,” Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency, said in a video posted to Twitter. After noting more work needed to be done, he expressed hope that “we all remember 2019 as a definitive peak in global emissions.”

    > Climate analysts are less sanguine. IEA’s findings supported a trend found in other recent reports: that a sharp drop in coal generation was responsible for lower emissions in the United States and Europe—and that everywhere else the picture looked bleak.

  2. We can do this. We must continue to move away from Fossil fuels. Remove subsidies for coal and oil, invest in solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear.

  3. I literally saw an article yesterday that said CO2 levels hit the highest peak ever lately….

  4. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/global-co2-emissions-were-flat-in-2019-but-dont-cheer-yet/) reduced by 90%. (I’m a bot)

    > Jackson was a contributor to a 2019 Global Carbon Project report that projected global emissions would grow by 0.6% last year.

    > Those decreases helped offset emissions growth in other parts of the world, where CO2 emissions increased by 400 million tons.

  5. Who cares? World is going to end in 10 years anyway. Greta was right.
