  1. Turks bombing Bouzra dam in Derik which provides drinking water for 2 million. So, get them on the run and then deny them water.

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/10/09/humanitarian-catastrophe-civilians-flee-turkey-launches-trump-sanctioned-military) reduced by 48%. (I’m a bot)

    > This is a developing story… Check back for possible updates…. Rights groups and anti-war activists warned of a looming "Humanitarian catastrophe" Wednesday as Turkish forces invaded northeastern Syria and launched airstrikes against Kurdish targets, forcing civilians to flee in panic.

    > In a statement issued before Turkey launched its attack, Amnesty International said "It is imperative that all parties to this conflict respect international humanitarian law, including by refraining from carrying out attacks on civilians and civilian objects, as well as indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks.”

    > "The international community must take measures to ensure respect for international humanitarian law by the Turkish authorities and pro-Turkey armed groups and Kurdish forces if yet another humanitarian catastrophe in northern Syria is to be avoided," said Amnesty.

  3. IS staging attacks in Raqqa as the Kurds are on the front line trying to stop the Turkish advance.

Looks like IS and Turkey have the same goal.

  4. Is it EU and NATO sanctioned also?

  5. America has often abandoned its allies but never like this. Shameful.

  6. I really hate the horse blinders in here. Please ask some questions, and don’t just blindly accept everything you read. It can’t be as simple as “Turks hate Kurds, so they want to bomb the shit outta them”. Does anyone in here even realize that **20% of the population within Turkey are Kurdish**? That’s right. 12 Million Kurds have a Turkish citizenship. Yes, there’s oppression going on in Turkey against minorities, but that’s a different issue that almost every other country is experiencing.

The issue here appears to be way more complicated than that. We will probably never know what’s going on behind the scenes. Maybe it really is as simple as the psycho dictator Erdogan trying to create a new Ottoman Empire, but Turkey has been defending itself against certain Kurdish terrorist groups backed by the US since the 80’s, so this is not something new. Or maybe they really see this as an opportunity to get rid of terrorism, just like the US *apparently was doing* in Afghanistan, Iraq and whatnot.

  7. Can the Joint Chiefs defy Trump and support the Kurds?

  8. To be fair.. “Trump Sanctioned” is a bit OTT. How about Trump allowed?

  9. Suddenly americans start to care about innocent brown people since Turkey launches attack, like they’ve never heard about the millions of refugees rushing into Germany or those killed by american drones and mercenaries.

  10. Reddit just don’t care Kurds any more. It’s old news. Hong Kong is the new toy.
