  1. If I’m being brutally honest… probably only first world countries are going to have the foundation & structure to handle something like the coronavirus.

That’s why a lot of pros are worried if it spreads in india, africa, or NK. These are zones that have a massive density of people and given the incubation period and… not the best health practices… Ya if the corona virus hit these areas… Bad things are going to happen.

  2. I’m in Africa a ways north of Zambia, and as far as I’m aware there is little awareness or precaution being taken here.

  3. I was wondering when this would happen. China has grown their economic presence tremendously in Africa in recent years. It was only a matter of time before Africa showed up with cases. And with their infrastructure issues, this will become a disaster really quickly.

  4. I lived in Zambia for a year and spent some time along the DR Congo border. The Chinese basically own everything in the Copperbelt. The government allows Chinese companies to run free in the Copperbelt, constructing roads and buying all the real estate. The government basically stays out while the Chinese pays off local politicians. The Chipolopolo, the Zambian national football team, plays in a Chinese-made football stadium. Chinese companies rarely hire locals too. It makes perfect sense that the Chinese would have their own hospitals too.

But I see serious vulnerabilities when it comes to Chinese nationals who are sick bringing viruses to Sub-Saharan Africa and most health ministries being completely unprepared. I doubt the Chinese are communicating with them. This is a great article.

  5. Considering the latest Ebola outbreaks – yeah in many parts of Africa they suck at quarantine – but cold and flu like disease will not spread there as easily as other parts of the World simply because it is sunny and dry most of the time and UV -radiation is strong because most of the the continent is highland. Basically an eternal summer with really strong sunlight.

Common cold and flu spread easiest during cold winters because it is dark, damp and people are packed and spend most of their time indoors.

I am much more worried about Indonesia, damp, most people live in lowland lots of rainy days, high population density etc. and no cases despite many Chinese nationals in the country?

If something is too good to be true…

But no governments are taking action.

Do people see a trend? There are catastrophic problems one right after another. And the governments do nothing.

Governments have been castrated by the billionaire class. They exist only to maintain the right economic conditions to make billionaires wealthier.

Billionaires will run off to their isolated island homes. They do not care about pandemics.

  7. If the Coronavirus starts spreading in Africa the EU has to stop forcing Italy co to take in African refugees / let them land. The images of stranded refugees have been a hot topic between European countries for years now. If it comes to this it might not be a question about pressure on the social system vs. ethical obligations anymore, but about avoiding a medical epidemic. There’s a reason why Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia don’t allow Chinese citizens to cross the borders anymore – and China is far more concerned with avoiding epidemics than African governments…

  8. Another noteworthy Belt and Road export.

  9. Stupid headline. Africa has 54 countries.
