Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said on Friday that the club would try to bring in defense reinforcements before the end of the winter transfer window next Monday.
Liverpool – who hold the Premier League title – needed to use 12 different duo in the center of defense since the start of the season, with the two Virgil van Dyck and Joe Gomez injured in the knee and missing for a long time.
German defender Joel Matip suffered an ankle injury in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, while midfielder Fabinho, who was playing in the center of defense, was absent for nearly 3 games due to a muscle strain.
When pressure on Klopp about hiring an additional defender to help the team, he said, “I don’t know, but we will try.”
“It will be funny for all of us to think, Liverpool is fine with the situation, they are not thinking or trying, we are trying, there is nothing to say until something happens, so we will see.”
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the problem has been suggested to be financial, but Klopp says it is a combination of price and talent.
“I am not sure there will be a defender worth 80 million pounds (90 million euros) at this moment to say a good club, we will get 80 million for him, and we want to sell him now,” Klopp said.
“To be frank, I don’t think this is the case. This player is of this type – most likely – I don’t think the team wants to sell him or sell him now.”
