A senior Manchester City executive said that the club has the financial ability to buy veteran Argentine Barcelona star Lionel Messi, if the opportunity arises in the next season.
City was the most prominent candidate to obtain the services of Messi (33 years), when the striker informed the management of his Barcelona team of his desire to leave last August.
But the best player in the world for 6 times decided after that to continue with the Catalan club until the end of the current season, which is his last season in the decade, to avoid entering into a legal battle with the club, with which he spent all his professional career, and won 34 major titles with him.
“He is the best player in the world, and he is the best player among his generation,” Omar Barrada, in charge of managing the club’s operations, said in an interview.
Barada added that his club “has the financial capacity” to take this step, when given the opportunity to do so.
