Mossad attacks the chief of staff’s statements regarding the Biden administration’s dealings with Iran

Yediot Aharonot revealed that the head of the Mossad, Yossi Cohen, attacked the statements of the Chief of Staff of the Army, Aviv Kochavi, regarding his opposition to the US administration’s intention to return to the Iran nuclear deal, and his announcement of developing plans for the army to prevent Iran from reaching the nuclear bomb.

The Israeli newspaper added that Cohen is expected to chair communications and dialogue with the administration of US President Joe Biden, regarding the Iranian nuclear file.

According to Yedioth Aharonot, the head of the Mossad agency supports keeping contacts with the US administration in this regard strictly confidential and in absolute secrecy.

Cohen is preparing to travel to Washington within a month, to hold meetings with the new US administration and agree on how to deal with the Iranian file.

On Saturday, the official Israeli Radio said that Kochavi’s statements had not been coordinated in advance with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

The radio stated that the statements were an attempt to send messages to Iran, the new US administration and the Israeli public opinion, that the Israeli army is ready to launch an attack that topples the Iranian nuclear project.

Criticism

Israeli security and political parties also criticized Kochavi’s statements and considered them a provocation to the US administration and an insult to its president, as they saw it as an attempt by Netanyahu to obstruct Biden’s efforts to return to the nuclear agreement with Iran.

The Chief of Staff revealed that Israel had prepared an accurate plan to launch a possible military attack on Iran, which would thwart any attempts to approach the possession of a nuclear bomb.

In a rare public speech last Wednesday, Kochavi confirmed that he had asked his teams to work out new plans to address what he described as an Iranian nuclear threat in the event a political decision was taken to target Tehran.

He said – during a conference organized by the Defense Research Institute at Tel Aviv University – that Iran possesses an unauthorized amount of enriched uranium and the centrifuges it has developed, which allows it to accelerate the development of a nuclear bomb, stressing his opposition to returning to the Iranian nuclear agreement even if amendments are introduced. On him, and demanded to keep the sanctions imposed on Tehran.
