  1. this is what being human is all about. care about my own tribe. fuck everyone else. democrat. republican. knicks. christian. we are right and you are wrong. i love it.

  2. Pisses me off to no extent that those are my “representatives”… South Africa is facing a massive drought crisis and officials refuse to do anything about the climate crisis- hardly any of the political parties even mentioned tackling climate change during our last election campaigns.

  3. I hope they won’t complain when climate change makes Africa uninhabitable.

  4. Need for corrupt leaders to embezzle oil cash outweighs the need of citizens to live.

  5. I made a comment about this the other day in a different thread

    > Current technology renders renewable energy both inefficient and expensive, especially for large scale industrialization.

    > fundamentally constrained by their high cost and relative technological immaturity. In developed nations, they remain dependent upon government support, and they cannot provide anywhere near the amount of energy needed to power modern life. If innovation could reduce the price and improve the capacity of renewables, then Africa should undoubtedly pursue them. But this is currently not the case.

    > Forcing an energy impoverished continent onto an energy diet would be highly destructive. Other nations that have pursued this diet, such as Norway, do so by selling fossil fuels to other nations, and using that money to subsidize their energy transition.

They are 100% right in this regard, they need to exploit those resources to create jobs and boost economic development.

Why should developed countries point the finger at them and make smaller, poorer countries forego economic development?

  6. Well, shit, so do Americans and Canadians and Russians and Australians and Saudi Arabians

Europe ain’t much better but at least they have some nuclear and hydro

  7. When they finish destroying Africa they will just move to Europe. What’s the problem? No problem #human_rights #immigrantion_for_everyone

  8. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://af.reuters.com/article/topNews/idAFKBN1XI19N-OZATP) reduced by 86%. (I’m a bot)
    > The tension keenly felt at oil conferences in Europe was largely absent over the three-day event in Cape Town; there was little focus on climate change, apart from the shadow renewables cast over long-term demand.

    > ALL IN OUR POWER. African ministers in Cape Town emphasised their need for fossil fuel cash and power in order to develop and diversify resource-dependent economies.

    > Nearly half of Africans had no access to electricity last year, according to the International Energy Agency, while around 80% of sub-Saharan African companies suffered frequent electricity disruptions that cut into profits.

  9. I’m for energy sustainability, but Western 1st World nations telling their former non-industrialized colonies NOT to industrialize is hypocritical. I’m not saying pump out the coal and oil, but what leg do they have to stand on when they are the product of 200yrs of unchecked industrialization and exploitation

  10. at least they are honest about it…
