On the pretext of the absence of licenses … the occupation demolishes 4 apartments for a Jerusalemite family

The United Nations says that as of October 19, 2020, Israeli authorities had demolished 568 Palestinian homes and buildings.

The Israeli occupation forces demolished a building consisting of 4 apartments, owned by the Alayyan family, in the town of Issawiya, south of the occupied holy city.

The head of the family, Fadi Elyan, works as a guard for the Al-Aqsa Mosque and lives with his wife in one of the apartments, along with 3 of their sons and grandchildren in the other apartments.

Fadi was pursued by the occupation soldiers and was arrested and deported from Al-Aqsa Mosque, and he says that the demolition of the house is an outrage that he is working as a guard at the Holy Mosque in Jerusalem, and the demolition was preceded by a threat from the Israeli intelligence via a phone call to demolish the house.

The Alayyan family built the building 12 years ago on their own land. Since then, it has sought to obtain a building permit from the occupation municipality, but to no avail.

According to the data of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of October 19, 2020, the Israeli authorities had demolished 568 Palestinian homes and buildings, displacing 759 people, under the pretext that they lacked Israeli building permits, which are almost impossible to obtain.

Last month, “Human Rights Watch” said that 46 Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank are at high risk of forcible transfer due to arbitrary Israeli policies. The human rights organization added that Israeli courts in Jerusalem have, in several cases, ordered the eviction of Palestinian families from their homes where they have lived for decades in the Silwan neighborhood.
