A goalless draw overshadowed the confrontation of Newcastle United and its guest, Liverpool, on Wednesday evening, in the sixteenth round of the English Football League.
The Reds strikers – the most dangerous on the goal – did not succeed in taking advantage of the window of opportunity during the 90 minutes of the match that took place at St James’ Park in Newcastle.
Liverpool raised its score to 33 points at the top of the standings, three points behind second-placed Manchester United, who has a postponed match and can equalize the Reds’ balance if he wins.
Newcastle is 14th with 19 points after 15 games, and it has a game in hand as well.
Reds’ chances are missed
The match began with pressure from Newcastle, but without danger to Alison Baker’s goal.

In the 35th minute, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah went alone with Darlo’s goalkeeper, to hit the Newcastle goalkeeper with his foot, missing Liverpool another chance to advance.
At the beginning of the second half, the match did not witness anything new, as the game was limited to the midfield, and no danger was formed to both Liverpool goalkeeper Alison and Newcastle goalkeeper Darlo.
In the 54th minute, Arnold executed a corner kick, which was directed by Senegalese Sadio Mane, but it went to the side of the left post of the Newcastle goal.
