  1. He’s trying to make Russia the tough guy, the really rough guy, again. Always acting tough, stirring trouble, picking the wrong ally. What a history, and they never learn.

  2. We didn’t have a defense against an ICBM launch larger than a few dozen missiles either. Russia has reclaimed the ability to fight a limited nuclear war rather than the only choice on the table on its side being apocalyptic. If you believe MAD was a real thing this is bad news.

I personally think this is actually intended as Russian domestic propaganda “ignore the burning carrier, we’re still relevant!” as well as polishing their credentials as a source for top shelf aerospace systems on the international market.

  3. Except for the whole MAD thing. It’s a suicide weapon.

  4. Does anyone look at the budgets of some nations on national security and wonder, “could this be spent on anything else?”. Have a well-funded military, but 750 billion a year? For that money there should be AI controlled robots colonizing another galaxy right now.

  5. Pretty sure the US doesn’t have a practical defence against unicorns, either.

  6. There is a difference between what Russia “Declares” and what reality is…

  7. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.cnbc.com/2019/12/27/russia-claims-its-new-hypersonic-weapon-is-ready-for-war.html) reduced by 80%. (I’m a bot)

    > In March, CNBC learned that nearly 20 Kinzhal missiles were moved to a military testing site, signaling another milestone for the Kremlin's hypersonic weapons program.

    > As it stands, the U.S. does not have a defense against hypersonic weapons such as Avangard.

    > While the Pentagon has several hypersonic weapons programs in development, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said in August that it will be "a couple of years" before the U.S. can deploy a weapon of this caliber.

  8. No need because the nukes are the deterrent.

  9. It’s blustering by Putin, nothing more. He wants to be seen as the man who restores the USSR to it’s 1970’s world power level. The big issue is the GDP of modern Russian is a shell of what the USSR was.

I’m more concerned with the asymmetric power projection being down by the russian intel services across Western Europe & the US.

  10. So they can make a hypersonic missile that can kill a million people at once, why not make a *hydroponic* missile that can *feed* a million people at once?

  11. Five bucks says it blows up on the launch platform.

  12. We have the same defense we’ve had for decades, and it’s just as effective against the new missiles. It’s called mutually assured destruction. If Russia starts any shit, we will finish it.

  13. putin has to talk tough so his people don’t realize just how weak he really is.

  14. Does overwhelming planet-killing retaliation count as a defense?

  15. They say this – and then Trump as we expect needs to brag about US military provess and divulge secrets on twitter so that his handlers get the military Intel they need.

  16. Suure let’s continue swinging our dicks around when we could be spending money on solving problems instead

  17. Remember when the Russian clowns had a weapon… propaganda at its best.

  18. Yet they don’t pay the babushkas their government job retirement.

  19. Considering the state of the rest of Russia’s military, and the state of their economy… I’m gonna press (X) to doubt.

  20. ICBM’s are hypersonic…

  21. They sure are pushing this vaporware

  22. What part of this missile is going to save their economy from the transition from fossil fuels to alternative forms of energy?

  23. Railguns and directed energy systems can be used to intercept these threats. Also, fallout shelters.

  24. Russian Defense Ministers Always Lie.

The only thing the Russians have proved they can do is kill a handful of their own nuclear scientists with this thing.

  25. Time to put nukes into satellites orbiting space. Just like that B grade 80s movie, Defcon 4.

  26. What’s the range on those bad boys?

    2000 Kms

  27. There is no need to develop a counter given that the fleet of B-2 Bombers are more than capable of obliterating every major city that they possess. The loss of even a single city to nuclear weapons is a tragedy that the world cannot afford to face. Additionally, the resulting chaos would probably kill off most of the planet.

  28. This would matter if Russia were allowed to use them. Those ICBM’s won’t even launch, just like ours.

  29. Yeah but we’ve got the biggest unclimbable border wall so there, Russia!

So glad Trump siphoned funds from the military in order to build this boondoggle border wall. That adds nothing to national security.

  30. Hypersonic is mach 5-10, modern ICBM’s impact speed is around Mach 20… (old ICBM’s can barely make Mach 3 though)
Mach 20 is the high end of High Hypersonic.

    Somethings wrong with this article

  31. russia is shit and its a bluff

  32. Well, this weapon and the Chinese dart missle thing were made to counter our stealth and our laser technology. This only gives the elusion they are caught up.

  33. That 2nd grade country with the economy so small California would dwarf it…somehow comes up with this… while the Pentagon spending billions more every year is far behind… interesting

  34. Rendering 10 carrier battle groups impotent.

  35. The orange shitstain taking Putin’s cock out of his mouth might help.

  36. Nothing like well-timed propaganda aimed at further causing chaos in the USA.
