Tension between America and Iran … Iraq demands calm and refuses to involve it in “adventures”

|

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi affirmed that the security of his country is a trust in the neck of the government, and that it will not submit to adventures, as he promised to prepare for “confrontation”, after America and Iran exchanged threats after the US embassy in Baghdad came under missile strikes last Sunday.

Al-Kazemi said in a tweet that “the security of Iraq is a trust in our necks, and we will not submit to adventures or diligence.”

He added that his government is working silently and quietly to restore the confidence of the people, the security services and the army in the state, after it was shaken by the adventures of outlaws.

The Iraqi Prime Minister stated that the government demanded a truce to prevent the country from being dragged into another absurd adventure, as he put it, stressing that the government is ready for a decisive confrontation if necessary.

For his part, the leader of the Iraqi Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, said – in a tweet entitled “A last call” – that his country had fallen victim to the US-Iranian conflict, and was damaged in a way that should not be tolerated.

And he added, “Therefore, I call on Iran to distance Iraq from its conflicts, and we will not leave it in intensity if it preserves Iraq and its government prestige and independence.”

Al-Sadr also warned “the occupation” – referring to the United States – against “persisting in that conflict,” considering that Iraq is not a party to the conflict.

Then Al-Sadr threatened – in case of failure to respond – with a political and popular stance that protects the people, the homeland and the holy sites, as he put it.

Without naming Iran, he said, “Iraq will not be affiliated with anyone, whatever it is, and it is the true source of Shiism and the first source of resistance against the occupation. It will not submit and will not kneel except for God.”

In the context, sources close to Iraqi factions revealed that the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Major General Ismail Qaani, confirmed to Iraqi officials during his visit to Baghdad 3 days ago that his country is not responsible for targeting American interests, and that it will not be dragged into military action that Washington will determine its time and location.

Threats and tension

Mutual warnings of escalation between Washington and Tehran have continued for several days, the most recent of which was the statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif that US President Donald Trump is making reckless and dangerous threats, and he will be responsible for any unmatched mistakes.

Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, the first deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament, said that his country is not concerned about the entry of the USS Georgia into the Gulf waters, indicating that Iranian forces are able to catch it with a fishing net.

In conjunction with these statements, the US embassy in Baghdad denied evacuating employees for fear of retaliatory attacks as the first anniversary of the assassination of the former commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, approaches.

Although the Iraqi army announced that an “outlaw group” was responsible for the recent bombing of the US embassy, which caused slight material losses, Trump said that the missiles came from Iran, and promised to respond.
