  1. aren’t kangaroos considered pests?

  2. Is this a case of Kangaroo’s being cuter than cows?

  3. It’s not like they are endangered…. did they stop using cow leather too?

  4. They are culled in the millions. Please use kangaroo skin instead of cow skin

  5. So silly, kangaroos are a pest and have to be culled to control the population from growing rapidly out of control

They ruin property, kill animals and livestock and are generally pretty ruthless

I notice it’s an Italian NGO not an aussie NGO that pushed for this which is fascinating

  6. ..they’re culled anyway. they can be a nuisance animal.

  7. Commercial purposes like food.

  8. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/15/versace-bans-kangaroo-skin-after-pressure-from-animal-activists) reduced by 71%. (I’m a bot)

    > The Italian fashion house Versace has banned the use of kangaroo skin for its luxury leather products collection.

    > Simone Pavesi, a representative of LAV, said: "We have been corresponding with Versace over email and they confirmed that in 2019 they stopped using kangaroo skin. We welcome this as a sign of responsibility, today more than ever. The fires that are devastating Australia add to the massacres of hunting, with dramatic consequences for the kangaroo population.”

    > LAV has also urged the Italian government to ban imports of kangaroo skin and written to Australia's ambassador in Italy, Greg French, calling for a ban on kangaroo hunting.

  9. But their literally considered pests as in theres too many and too many of them fuckups the local habitat.

  10. But this week only, there’s a big sale on as I hear the Australians want to shoot thousands of them for drinking too much water . . .

  11. Given the current situation in Australia there probably won’t be 2.3 million Kangaroos left to be killed, so this seems like more of a supply chain change of vendor situation.
