The Washington Post wrote in its editorial today that the American people need to know the truth about President Donald Trump’s infection with the Corona virus, and stated that whether his recovery is fast or slow, his health will be an urgent public concern.
The newspaper said Americans should know whether Trump is healthy enough to make important decisions, including those related to the nation’s security. She believed that experts should track the source of the outbreak to see who should also take precautions.
People should also be reassured that senior officials in the White House, federal agencies and Congress will be subject to regular testing and monitoring, and when necessary they will be isolated to contain any spread among the country’s top leadership.
That also includes Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and others who attended Tuesday’s debate – although the former vice president’s test results were negative – since the incubation period for the virus can extend to 14 days.
Trump is now in the same ordeal that many others have endured since February, and his diagnosis confirms that everyone is exposed to this scourge, and people must wear masks and maintain social distancing.
The newspaper stated that if the actual source of Trump’s infection can be determined, it must be disclosed without equivocation, because this will inform public health officials of where to look for new infections, and explain to the Americans how the virus is spread.
She suggested that the impending elections might reinforce Trump’s instinct to hide or misrepresent the truth, given his already disappointing record.
She added that the White House learned of the injury of Hope Hicks, aiding Trump, before he went to an indoor fundraiser on Thursday, yet the president attended the ceremony without wearing a muzzle as if there was nothing wrong.
The newspaper added that it was the Bloomberg news site – not the White House – that informed the public that a close presidential aide was ill with a highly contagious virus.
And the Washington Post said that tests conducted by doctors on Trump at Walter Reed Hospital late Friday must make their results fully public, and they must answer reporters’ questions at press conferences.
She concluded that Trump is now in the same ordeal that many others have endured since February, and perhaps he thought through extensive tests that he was safe and relaxed about wearing the muzzle, but his diagnosis confirms that everyone is exposed to this scourge, and people must wear masks and maintain social distancing.
