At the end of the Umayyad era in Andalusia, and in its last years of prosperity and turmoil as well, and in a house of honor, prestige and dominance in it, Ali bin Ahmed bin Saeed bin Hazm was born in the year 384 AH / 994 CE, and he was one of the pure men in the history of Andalusia and geniuses of its intellectual and philosophical fields Religious; That man, who seems to have collected contradictions, has become the head of the apparent doctrine, its jurist, brilliant in comparison to all the juristic schools, a speculative philosopher, and even a politician, as his father was one of the great ministers, and at the same time he had a passionate passion, a fierce soul, and a heart that knew its worth!
The great poet and Sufi Ibn Hazm Andalusian did not lie when he said: “The tongue of Ibn Hazm and the sword of Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf Sanwan,” which is an analogy from which we see the strength of Ibn Hazm’s tongue, his compelling of opponents, his present argument, and his brilliant statement, and it is a tongue that caused hostility and hatred among his competitors Those who were weak in front of him, and eventually resorted to burning his books on false accusations that made the man go to the farm of his fathers and his grandfathers in the last years of his life, reclining on science, and a future for students of knowledge from all over Andalusia!
But Ibn Hazm also presented us with a wonderful color of Arabic and Andalusian literature, in which his courage, taste and memories were manifested in the stages of youth and adoration. This is his favorite and famous book “The Ring of the Dove in Intimacy and Affinity.” So who is Ibn Hazm? Why did he write this book? How did he deal with his most prominent failures in this high-end humanitarian field ?! That’s what we’ll see next.
We knew that Ibn Hazm was a descendant of a well-off family, as his father was one of the ministers of the Umayyad state in its last days and years in Andalusia, and from here Ibn Hazm grew up in an environment full of slaves and women, for they were the ones who preserved the Noble Qur’an and taught him literature and poetry. And he admits to the women of palaces this merit, saying: “I have seen women and learned from their secrets something that no one else can know, because I was raised in their rooms, and I grew up in their hands, and I did not know anyone else, nor did I sit with men except when I was among the youth, and they taught me the Qur’an, and they told me. Many poems, and they trained me in calligraphy, and my hard work and the work of my mind from the beginning of my understanding, and I was in very childhood, did not know their reasons, search for their news, and achieve that..
This upbringing among the women of the palaces from the silks and slaves that Ibn Hazm lived until his youthful years affected his being and feelings, and through it he realized the value of women in the man’s world without a doubt; A value that will be evident in the stories of virgin love that he lived himself or witnessed in Cordoba, the capital of the Andalusian Umayyad Caliphate, or outside it from the other cities of Andalusia.
These facts will appear when one of his friends sent him from the city of Almería, and he was living in Shattah at the time, within the year 417 AH, asking him to write something about love and lovers while he was in his late youth, and despite his reluctance to write first, his pen was an offspring that removed what he was hiding from From the anguish of love and its stories, and the feelings it contained, which needed to be moved towards the open and the extension of the pens.
The greatest stories that Ibn Hazm told about his love for a maid was at the age of sixteen, and he was in love with her, but she did not share the same feeling, and it seems that this blockage and blockages made the flames of love and longing ignite in his being and himself, this was evident in his description of those moments even after the passage of More than fifteen years or more since that incident, he says in a sweet graceful style full of meaning and love:
“I tell about me that in the days of my youth I became familiar with the affection of a slave girl who grew up in our home, and at that time she was a sixteen-year-old girl, and she was very good in her face, mind, chastity and purity. Sight, very cautious, pure from faults, permanent poles, many reverence, relishing of distaste, do not direct the traitor towards her, and the ambitions do not stand on her, nor the mash of hope for her, so her face brings all hearts, and her condition is expelled from her mother … she is held seriously in her matter unwillingly In amusement, though, she used to do the oud well, so she leaned towards her and loved her with excessive and intense love, so I tried for two years or so to answer me with a word and hear the one in it, other than what occurs in the apparent hadith to every hearer, with the most eloquent pursuit, so I did not reach anything at all..
Ibn Hazm tells how this maid, meaning the girl in our language today, was in the company of other girls and women in their spacious home, which was on a high peak from the peaks of Cordoba on an unforgettable sunny day, and how her windows were opened onto a bright panoramic panel from which women and Ibn Hazm were seen. Among them were the colorful landscapes of Cordoba, and how he was trying to approach this girl hoping that she would kindly give him a word or a glance, or lean towards him just a mile, so he cools what was in his heart of longing, even a little, he says:
Then they moved to a kasbah that was in our house that overlooks the orchard of the house, and from it he looked over all of Cordoba and its examinations (its regions), the doors were opened, and they looked through the chariots (the balconies) while I was among them, for I remember that I was going to the door in which Ansa was near her Exposing to approaching it, what is only if you see me in her neighborhood and leave that door and mean another in the kindness of the movement, then I deliberately intend to the door to which it has become, and then return to such an act from the disappearance to another, and she had taught my burden (my love and my attachment) to it, and did not All women feel who we are, because they were so many. “.
Then Ibn Hazm tells how political incidents forced his father to move from eastern Cordoba to its west, to their old homes in the last years of the collapse of the Umayyad rule, and the turmoil of the revolutions between 399-402 AH, and how these incidents led to the persecution of his father, the minister, and Ibn Hazm away against his will On the authority of his beloved, whom he fell in love with, even if the death of his father came in 404 AH when he was at the age of twenty, that girl came to condolence among those who came from the women, and he saw her and he increased his injury, and memories aroused to him he tried to forget, he says:
“It aroused the foundations of our burial, and stirred a finger, and reminded me of an old era, and untidy love, past ages, healthy times, past months, successive news, past ages, days gone, and traces that have broken, and renewed my sorrows, ( That day, I was a sick and injured person, and I did not forget, but the agony increased and the agony burned, the sadness was confirmed, the regret multiplied, and the sentiment was brought about what was latent, so he answered it, so I said a piece of it:
Weeping for a dead person who died honored … And for the living, first with tears shed
How a wonder I am sorry for someone second … Sorry what is wrong with the one killed. “
This tragedy was not the only failure of Ibn Hazm in his journey of love, however, he quickly took prejudice against himself and forgot about this girl or forgot her a little, until another called “Yes” occupied him with her love, morals and beautiful beauty, and this girl or slave girl who owned it with an oath, unlike His first love, compatible with him, obedient to him, it seems that they vowed to march together until the end of life, but the fate of his rulings is effective, he says:

We find among the folds of the tales of “Touq Al-Hamamah” some other stories in which Ibn Hazm’s endeavor was disappointed and influenced him greatly. The truth was one of the bravest historians, jurists and scholars of Sharia when he admitted these feelings in his book that a whole thousand years ago. The love of Ibn Hazm, and his failures That which came to him, did not forget him that pleasure that flowed into his words sweet-tasting as we see it, absolutely sincere in conveying its meaning, but in its building, he recognized the splendor and beauty of love and his stories that he lived between the palaces and alleys of Cordoba, the gardens of Andalusia and its abundance, and the stories of the lovers in it, and that is a glimpse Romantic humanism in the history of literature after Islam is remarkable and surprising, without a doubt!
