  1. This might be important for cat owners in lockdown. It may be good to keep your cat indoors for now.

  2. >According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, animals can become infected by the coronavirus, but scientists don’t believe they can spread the bug to humans.

  3. They’re never gonna financially recover from this.

  4. Coughing tiger, hidden covid

  5. Hope it doesn’t spread to wild tigers. It would be very hard to sneak up to your prey while coughing.

  6. A lot of cats have multiple “owners”, so this could get nasty.

  7. The cat in Belgium wasn’t tested, it’s vomit and feces had been sent to the lab by the owner who had the disease.
There’s no proof that the owner didn’t contaminate those.

  8. I might die from Covid-19, but my cat is a big enough asshole that it would probably kick its ass.

  9. Very fucking bizzare. Anecdote I know, but my cat also got sick. She is very old and we assumed it was renal failure. She started sneezing, something we hadn’t heard her do since she was sick as a very young new mother cat we had adopted as stray over 15 years ago. She actually got so sick we called a vet to see if she could make appointment to be put to sleep if she continued to get worse. At least for now she got better. I swear we were making jokes about her having corona virus and kinda laughing like “haha maybe she isn’t really dying yet so soon into the spring! It’s corona!” but now thst she’s healthy and we’re reading this and many many many other anecdotes of pets getting sick it’s just super fucking bizzare.

  10. Is it fatal to the cat? Because I don’t want anything to happen to my poofball. (She’s indoor only so I hope that helps)

  11. > …after developing coughs.

I imagine a coughing tiger might sound a bit terrifying.

  12. Question is can the cats that has the virus transmit it to humans?

  13. We have tests for celebrities, politicians and zoo animals. It’s a real bad time to be human.

  14. carole fucking baskin at it again.

  15. The Tiger King’s not going to like this.

  16. Damn I remember about 30 feral cats per restaurant in Athens….

  17. It’s odd that there’s a show named Pandemic on Netflix released in Jan this year (it takes time to make a show like this). Now it seems Tigers can get the disease and there’s a show named Tiger King on netflix.

    Interesting at the least.

  18. So if we are testing animals, does that mean the US has enough test kits now?

  19. I’m assuming this tiger was very much under lockdown, with a very definite isolation gap – perhaps a moat, bars and then a fence etc. If it can contract the virus, does that mean our attempts at self-isolation are ineffective?

  20. Can dogs also get covid and will they start coughing?

  21. “Another paper, also published in medrXiv, found that of 102 cats tested in Wuhan, nearly 15% had antibodies to the virus, suggesting they can contract the virus from humans or other cats. No evidence has been found that cats can transmit the virus to humans, the authors of both studies noted.”

There’s no evidence humans can get it from cats.

  22. So you can still get infected while being in lockdown because your cat brings other things back home than just dead mice and birds. Great.

  23. To those worried that your house pet could get corona- they DO have an animal vaccine that was most likely given to them when they were young. Cats, dogs, rabbits, etc. you don’t have to stress about it.

  24. DNA from humans and cats is very similar.

  25. can we get it from cats?

  26. I guess I’m not taking my cat with me once I go into nurses quarantine. That sucks. Just last month they swore pets weren’t at risk. 🙁
