  1. Probably for the best. While running a little can boost the immune system, running *that* much can really inhibit the immune system. Combined with the close contact, bodily fluids, heavy breathing, etc… sounds like an optimal petri dish.

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.smh.com.au/sport/athletics/tokyo-marathon-cancelled-for-38-000-non-pro-runners-report-20200217-p541pg.html) reduced by 65%. (I’m a bot)

    > February 17, 2020 – 9.30pm. The Tokyo Marathon Foundation said it will cancel the running event for non-professional runners as the coronavirus outbreak pressures cities and institutions to scrap large events.

    > Runners have registered for the race scheduled on March 1, according to the Tokyo Shimbun, which reported on the cancellation earlier.

    > Competitive races will still be held, as the Tokyo marathon is an Olympic trial race for professional runners, according to the Tokyo Shimbun.
