  1. >after nearly 1,000 days

Must have felt like 1000 years.

  2. So did Wikipedia change something regarding the pages about Turkey or was it the people who asked for it so much the government didn’t have a choice?

Or are they just ok with the content even tho it’s most likely criticizing the president etc.?

  3. No one who actually cared about Wikipedia followed the ban anyways. Just add a 0 in the URL and you would access it. Just having it unbanned is more convenient but it won’t be that much of a difference for most people that are at least slightly tech-savvy.

  4. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-51133804) reduced by 66%. (I’m a bot)
    > Turkey is restoring access to Wikipedia after a ban that lasted almost three years.

    > "We are thrilled that the people of Turkey will once again be able to participate in the largest global conversation about the culture and history of Turkey online and continue to make Wikipedia a vibrant source of information about Turkey and the world," the foundation blogged.

    > On Wednesday, the hashtag #Wikipedia became the top trending topic on Twitter in Turkey after the ban was lifted, BBC Monitoring reported.

  5. Nice for them. I live in China and it’s been blocked for what, like 10 years or so;(

  6. So now there’s also a Wiki entry for the Turkey ban, I imagine.

  7. School results dropping too much?

  8. Poor wikipedians of the Turkish pages, they have a lot of catching up to do.

  9. I don’t know how, but I was able to access Wikipedia while in Turkey last year. My whole Family was like” whoa how’d you do that?” I had no idea it was banned, lol. Maybe cause my phone was on an international plan? I dunno.

  10. This actually doesn’t change much for the People who are using website because the ban didnt worked very well everybody was still using it with simple tricks. It wasnt a great decision to ban it in the first place
