  1. Let’s make it 90. Anyone for 90?

  2. leave it to the beancounters to pick the 30% and youll end up with antarctica, arctic canada, arctic russia and greenland being 29.9% of the 30%. plus a little spot in the sahara for good measure.

  3. I get a kick out of the humans that actually believe they have a say in whats about to happen.

Your species is on the list of those endangered by climate change.

Patience…wont be long before it starts to show. Another couple really bad grow seasons and yeah…the JIT system will start to show stress. 10 dollar tomato, 10 dollar head of lettuce….

  4. I wonder if the UN will tell Africa to stop reproducing since Africa will be the source of most of the population growth in the next century.

  5. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://insideclimatenews.org/news/14012020/biodiversity-treaty-climate-change-marine-sanctuary-conservation-protected-areas-wildlife-habitat-forests) reduced by 80%. (I’m a bot)

    > It aims to halt species extinctions and also limit climate change by protecting critical wildlife habitat and conserving forests, grasslands and other carbon sinks.

    > Eric Dinerstein, the lead author of last year's study and director of biodiversity and wildlife solutions for the health and environmental advocacy organization RESOLVE, said new climate models and biodiversity analyses conducted in the past year underscored the need to protect more than 30 percent of the planet in the near future.

    > These percentages are just shy of the UN Convention's 2020 targets, which call for 17 percent of all land and 10 percent of marine environments to be protected by the end of 2020.

  6. Environmental destruction linked to African population raises questions about family sizes

  7. I live in a semi-arid climate where national parks regularly burn down in wildfires because without farming, dense bush land grows that presents a huge fire risk. Without farmers working the land, the land can only be cleared by bulldozers, which requires a lot of fossil fuels and destroys all nature.

Instead of creating national parks to serve as alibi function, all land surface needs to be managed in a sustainable manner to achieve maximum CO2 sequestration. Fertile farming soil can store several times more CO2 than is present in the atmosphere.

Climate activists already went down one erroneous road: biofuels, lets not go down this road.

  8. How about a billion people just kill themselves right now, a billion more agree never ever to have kids and another billion are executed?

Oh no wait, that would still leave almost 5 billion people and are per capita emissions are just too high to sustain even that population.

    Either:

    1. We find a groundbreaking and scalable technology solution
    2. We consume at levels that would basically make all our economies super poor and shitty (and I literally mean shitty, toilet paper is a luxury)
    3. We lose ~60-80% of world population
    4. We’re fucked
