The Real Madrid coach’s inclusion of reserve goalkeeper Lucas Canizares has received great attention, not because of the annexation itself, but because he has a story that shows his dedication, and his father is a former Real Madrid goalkeeper with a human story that everyone in Spain sympathized with.
Lucas Canizares is preparing to follow in the footsteps of his father Santi, to become a goalkeeper for Real Madrid, the Spanish soccer league title holder, after joining the first team on Friday for the first time.

Lucas – the eldest son of the great Spanish goalkeeper Santi – joined Real Madrid’s youth academy in 2013 from Valencia, and quickly attracted attention in Spain when he appeared in a widely circulated video clip crying severely after receiving a goal in the Junior League Championship in 2014.
Lucas played for Real Madrid’s under-19 team, who won the UEFA Youth Champions League last August, led by royal legend Raul, although he did not participate in the 3-2 win over Benfica in the final.
His father, Santi, grew up at Real Madrid’s academy, and played 41 league matches with the first team between 1994 and 1998, winning two league titles and one Champions League title in 1998.
Santi then spent a decade in Valencia before retiring in 2008, adding two league titles in 2002 and 2004.

Santi also played 44 international matches for Spain, but he missed the 2002 World Cup after accidentally smashing a bottle after shaving his chin, causing injury to his foot.
It warms my Valencia heart that Lucas Cañizares has been selected for Real Madrid this weekend. He is the son of the legendary Santiago Cañizares.

The Canizares family suffered from a tragedy in 2018, when Santi, the younger brother of Lucas, at the age of 5, died after a long struggle with illness in a human story for which he received great sympathy in Spain.
Lucas Cañizares, son of the mythical Santi Cañizares, is the main novelty in the Real Madrid squad. The young goalkeeper will sit on di Stéfano’s bench as the third goalkeeper, as Altube will be Castilla’s starting goalkeeper in the team’s debut against Las Rozas. pic.twitter.com/6T5DSC76cs
