Eight people were wounded in a shooting attack on Friday near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the perpetrator was not arrested, according to local police.
The shooting took place at the Mayfield mall in Wawatosa, a suburb of Milwaukee with a population of 47,000.
Wawatosa police said in a statement that “when the rescue teams arrived, the shooter was not present at the scene of the incident,” stressing that the danger still exists, and calling on residents to stay away from the scene.
The local authorities said that “7 adults and a minor were taken to hospital,” without being able to determine the severity of their injuries.
The police explained that the shooter – whose identity has not been revealed – is a “white man in his twenties or thirties.”
Several employees took shelter inside the mall, according to videos circulating on social media showing them in hiding.
“We are grateful to the Wawatosa police and are cooperating with them in their investigations,” the Facebook page of the mall, which was temporarily closed, said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Twitter that it had also visited the site.
